The Sandcarvers: St. Patrick's Celebration 2008 - March 1 thru 17 Various Venues : Shor, the craic was at an all time high, as The Sandcarvers turned darn near the entire month of March into a St. Pat's hooley! Festivities began at O'Marro's Public House, followed closely by a show with The Young Dubliners at the Northern Lights Theater. Next, it was on to the House of Guinness and then O'Bryan's Nine Irish Brothers the next night (sorry, no photos from this show, as I was ill). A few nights later we stopped at Shank Hall for a show with Hothouse Flowers. Next, there was a gig at Trinity Irish Pub. The next day we traveled to Chicago for an afternoon slot at The Abbey Pub and an evening show at Ballydoyle Irish Pub. Finally, we topped things off on St. Patrick's day with a lunchtime show at Tommy Nevin's Pub and then once again back at The Abbey for a headlining show. This was a killer performance and it was a real treat to capture The 'Carvers "under the lights" after a string of daylight outdoor shows. The Sandcarvers: Feb. 23, 2007 McAuliffe's Pub Racine WI : The Sandcarvers and McAuliffe's Pub hosted a benefit show to fight cancer and hey, we raised over $1,000, all of which goes directly to the American Cancer Society. Ah, and it was quite the hooley as well, as we auctioned off "dates" with our very own Jeff, A.J. and Raven. We even got JJ into the act and it was I, your humble shutterbug, who had the honor of taking home this prize...I just hope the big lug is house trained! We also had raffles for Bald Lady Coffee (a special story in itself, which you should check out via the link), Tullamore Dew t-shirts, a ride on a Harley and a brand new pink Archer SS-10 guitar, signed by all The Sandcarvers. Congrats to Barb who took that baby home! The entire Sandcarver family would like to ask you to take a moment and go check out Celtic Rockers Against Insidious Cancer, a brand new charitable effort (hosted by Firstgiving.com) set up by our good pal DJ John Bowles from PaddyRock Radio. We thank you kindly. Of course, we must thank all in attendance for digging deep and making this a special evening for all of us. The Sandcarvers & Sweet Jelly: McAuliffe's Pub - Racine, WI : (2006-04-21 McAuliffe's Pub) It was a rousing and eclectic night of music at McAuliffe's Pub as Sweet Jelly opened for The Sandcarvers. If you've never seen Sweet Jelly, go...now...really, you'll have a blast. How can you not, when the band has as much fun on stage as they do? Tight, well-crafted originals mixed in with some nice - and varied - covers here and there. They also have a new disk out which should be on your to-get list. Next, it was The Sandcarvers, who opened their set with a brand new song called "Backroom." From there it was two-and-a-half hours of music from their newest release (Dealin' Craic) and all the best from their back catalogue. The evening was really special as there was a mini-Carvers-reunion of sorts; of course JJ McAuliffe was on hand, but also in attendace was R.J "Hansen" Lindsay. First and foremost, out thanks to all in attendance and McAuliffe's Pub: thanks to you over $750.00 was raised for the St. Baldrick's "Shave Your Head to Conquer Kids' Cancer" annual event. Jamie was gracious enough to loose his locks for the cause. In addition, big thanks to R.J. and also to Ste (formerly of (Strange Land) for stopping by; to JJ and his wonderful staff (Andy and Tina) for taking such good care of us; to Bob & Gary for sound; to Michelle for the cookies and "The Bubble Girls" for...bubbles!

The Sandcarvers: The Yardarm, Racine, WI : (2006-04-08 The Yardarm) It's always a treat when The Sandcarvers play at The Yardarm. It's such a great little place and it's always packed with enthusiastic Carvers fans whenever we play, and there always seems to be a few "Newbie's" catching us for the first time, too. Great staff (who always treat us wonderful), great food...ya can't go wrong! Tonight was extra special as our new friend Carrie Engdahl came in from New Jersey to meet us...she also graciously performed the middle set while we stuffed our faces! And what a set it was, too. The Sancarvers: Ballydoyle Irish Pub, Downers Grove IL : (2006-03-25 Ballydoyle) The Sandcarvers 2006 "ADDICTED TO CRAIC" ST. PATRICK'S SEASON TOUR concludes with another show opening for the fabulous Tempest. This was a wild, crazy and fun month for us and we couldn't think of a better way for it to end than at Ballydoyle with Tempest...big thanks, Tempest, for letting us hook up with you! More thanks to Adolfo and Ariane from Tempest for the gracious use of drums and bass rigs over the weekend, Phil Cullen and the wonderful staff at Ballydoyle, Rick Sullivan for stellar sound and "Beff" (once again and always) for help with merch. The Sandcarvers: St. Patrick's Day - The Abbey Pub, Chicago, IL : (2006-03-17 The Abbey) The Sandcarvers 2006 "ADDICTED TO CRAIC" ST. PATRICK'S SEASON TOUR spills over from Nevin's to The Abbey. Thank goodness it was only a twenty minute drive! The band really kicked it into overdrive for this, their first headlining show at The Abbey. I can safely say that this WAS the finest performance ever by our lads and lassie. The Sandcarvers: St. Patrick's Day - Nevin's Irish Pub, Evanston, IL : (2006-03-17 Nevin's Pub) The 2006 "ADDICTED TO CRAIC" ST. PATRICK'S SEASON TOUR continues for The Sandcarvers with a grand St. Patrick's Day debut performance at Nevin's Pub. It was very cool to also have the Trinity Irish Dancers on hand to kick things off. Our biggest thanks go out to Rohit and all the folks at Nevin's; the incomparable Wes & Norm for keeping us well-hydrated and fed during our set; Mason for a phenomenal job running the sound board; Beth and my son Josh for handling the merch table; all the dancers - from "Grandma" to the wee-folk - for all the vertical movement during our set and to all in attendance for warmly welcoming a new band to their neck of the woods. Jeff would like to send a shout out to Mom, Dad, Bro and all the rest o' the kin for making it in from Michigan to spend the day with us. The Sandcarvers: "Dealin' Craic" CD Release Party : (2006-03-10 Shank Hall) the OFFICIAL 2006 "ADDICTED TO CRAIC" ST. PATRICK'S SEASON TOUR heads into week two with a stop at Shank Hall in Milwaukee for the official "Dealin' Craic" CD release party! If you weren't there, you missed a hell of a show. Steel Bonnets, "The Most Dangerous Band in Milwaukee," opened the show with their usual stellar performance of more traditional Irish/Scottish trad songs...always a fun time from the lads. Then The Sandcarvers hit the stage firing on every cylinder available. You could tell from the first note that they were psyched for this show. Clocking in at just under three hours - with no breaks - this was perhaps the finest performance I've ever seen the band give. Everything, and I do mean EVEREYTHING, was left onstage this night. And to top it off? A new version of AC/DC's "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock'n'Roll)" for an encore...Celt-i-fied, of course! The Sandcarvers: Hops 'n' Props/O'Marro's Public House, Oshkosh, WI : (2006-03-04) The Sandcarvers kick off their OFFICIAL 2006 "ADDICTED TO CRAIC" ST. PATRICK'S SEASON TOUR with a trip to Oshkosh, WI for a pair of shows. First it was the Hops 'n' Props beer tasting extravaganza held at the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture Museum. A very cool event: Over 100 different brews from regional micro-breweries and great food highlighted the evening. Then it was across town to what is arguably our favorite place to play, O'Marro's Public House for our Official Central Wisconsin CD Release Party. This was a special night for all of us in that we had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with the one and only "Little" Jimmie Sizemore, the last remaining original cast member of the Grand Ole Opry. Oh, the stories he told! Our deepest thanks to Tom Poberzney, Matt Miller and all the rest of the folks with EAA and Hops 'n' Props; all the guys from Brothers of Other Mothers for equipment, sound, going above and beyond and for stopping by to catch our show; of course Shawn and Barndy O'Marro and their waitstaff of Maddie and Terrie who not only kept us hydrated but joined us onstage for a jig; the legendary "Little" Jimmie Sizemore; Shawn again for providing harp; Brian from GoAudio for the superb sound at O'Marro's, Scott Kniss for starting our second set with a wonderful rendition of "The Scotsman's Kilt" and our dear Beth for giving us a hand with merch. The Sandcarvers - Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade : (2005-03-12) The Sandcarvers started the day at the world famous Abbey Pub in Chicago for breakfast and soccer between Ireland and France. Then, The Sandcarvers were honored to participate in the annual Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade.. Finally, back to the Abbey for a full evening of kick-ass celtic rock music.
